On March 11, 2020, Deputy Minister of Innovative Development of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tuychiev Olimjon and Columbia University Professor Aziza Shanazarova will visit Yeoju Technical Institute in Tashkent to meet young scientists and students. At the meeting global trends and news of science and innovations, including the state of science in Uzbekistan will be discussed. Moreover, Columbia University Professor will share her experience with young scientist and students. In addition, the deputy minister will talk about the ministry’s initiatives regarding youth, including startups, where to start and how to promote startups.
Aziza Shanazarova is the first Uzbek professor at Columbia University, as well as the first Uzbek professor to gain a tenure track position. She has recently received her dual PhD in Religious Studies and Central Eurasian Studies from Indiana University-Bloomington. Her dissertation, titled “A Female Saint in Muslim Polemics: Aghā-yi Buzurg and Her Legacy in Early Modern Central Asia,” is a study of female religious authority in early modern Central Asia.
